A Guide to Airfix Scale Models

· Toys

Having something to interact with be it your phone or pet is something we all yearn for in our day-to-day lives. Well, what about interacting with toys? I know that seems like something a kid would do but adults like you and me can also have fun with RC toys. Remote-controlled scale models are toys everyone can enjoy interacting with.

RC models are not there just to help you have a great time. They also help you learn a few skills like weathering, painting, and sanding. With RC models you will also improve upon your hand-eye coordination as well as fine motor skills. They can also help boost your creativity but only if you go for a brand that has been making highly detailed RC models for a long time.

Airfix

Airfix was born in the UK in 1939. Thanks to a Hungarian refugee Nicholas Kove, the Airfix name became reality and the brand, the oldest manufacturer of scale plastic model kits in the UK. Also, synonymous with the company's most reputable and recognisable products are their popular Airfix planes which started the brand's path to success. Starting a brand as idealistic as Airfix at the brink of a world war was ambitious and naming it Airfix was even more ambitious. Well, this ambition has made Airfix expand and dominate the market for over 70 years. Now there are more than just planes manufactured together with Humbrol.

Types of Airfix Aircraft

Warbirds

The most popular and iconic models from Airfix are warbirds. These plane models are vintage aircraft that have been used for military purposes. Warbirds are Airfix planes that mainly represent WW2 aircraft. An Airfix warbird is not only made as military memorabilia, it also brings a sense of nostalgia, whilst being aesthetically pleasing and full of rich history. You can never go wrong with one.

Scale

You can also find scale model planes from Airfix. These are the exact replicas of real-world aircraft. While other planes might look the same as scale model planes they're not. Scale model planes differentiate themselves by having intricate details and unique physical characteristics borrowed from the real thing.

Aerobatic

If you want to do tricks and complex maneuvers in the air, then aerobatic planes are for you. Aerobatic planes usually have a mid-wing configuration that is combined with symmetrical airfoils. This means you get no self-correction by the plane - everything falls on your hands. Because of this, you'll need to have plenty of experience with RC planes as one wrong move can make your plane hit the ground.

Helicopters

Although not as quick as planes, Airfix helicopters are quite an interesting set of scale models. You can move them the same way their original counterparts do and you can even do some acrobatic movements. But let's leave that to more advanced users.

Tanks

Another vast lineup of military models Airfix has are tanks. Many WW2 Airfix military tanks are available. These include the Sherman Firefly, Tiger 1, T34, M3 Lee, the M36, the M12, M7 and more. You can also find WW1 female tanks as well as tank destroyers such as the M10 and Jagdpanzer.

Military Trucks

Various all-terrain vehicles and Airfix military trucks are also part of the company's wide range of scale models. These Airfix trucks include ambulance models, tank transporter trucks, Jeeps, and Bedford QLT/ QLD trucks.

Types of Airfix Ships

Sailing

Although military ship models are more popular with Airfix, the brand also has civilian ones such as sailing ships. These are replicas of old sailing boats from different eras with a lot of attention to detail. The more detailed the ship the more time you spend making it and enjoying the process too.

Boats

If you're not after building scale model ships, then consider boats. These are quite smaller than a sailing model ship and come in different designs. The design depends on the type of hull the boats have. There is more fun in driving these Airfix models than building them.

Warships

If you are true to the military core of Airfix, then warships are going to be your thing. Like sailing ships, warships have lots of detail to them. Like Airfix's selection of military tanks and planes, their warships are inspired mainly by ones used in WW2. There are also modern warships like the Type 45, but you will mostly find models like the Bismarck, Devonshire, Belfast, Hood, and more.

Passenger

There aren't many passenger ships to choose from when it comes to Airfix's lineup. In fact, there's only one that's available in different scales and that is the Titanic. But then again, what other passenger ship is more iconic than the Titanic?
